As the saying goes, “some things are meant to be”. For James Anthony and DJing, truer words have never been spoken. From an extremely early age, James showed a tremendous affinity for music, never missing a chance to purchase 45’s of the latest Top 40 songs of the time at the local music store. As dance music found its way onto the radio with the advent of stations like WQHT “Hot 103” in the mid-1980’s, James became fascinated by the sounds of the New York and Miami club scene that permeated the airwaves of his childhood landscape of Staten Island, New York. While spending much of his childhood recording radio mixshows and learning to DJ with hand me down equipment (including a karaoke machine, a broken turntable and a dual cassette recorder), James dedicated most of his free time to emulating the sounds of popular radio mixers of the time. As he entered his teen years, and with the advent of the new WKTU 103.5 in 1996 and a renewed vigor in the genre, James actively pursued work as a mobile DJ, and later graduated to small clubs while still in high school. While pursuing his degree at Fordham University in Media Studies and Music Theory, James began working part-time in the promotions department at WKTU as a Party Crew member. Soon after, James was approached by Vic Latino to put together a mix of freestyle classics for the KTU House Party. The programming staff took notice and it was not soon after that James was offered a permanent position mixing freestyle classics, the music he grew up with, every Sunday night as part of the highly rated Freestyle Free For All. Now 25 years old, with three years of radio mixshow experience under his belt, as well as new mixshows airing weekly on Sirius Satellite Radio (36 "The Beat", 37 "The Strobe" and 33 "Area 33"), James is ready to conquer the next front in his already amazing journey- the big room. Forgoing the “classic” sound he is best known for on the NY airwaves, James delivers an intense, energetic blend of tribal rhythms and anthem vocals. With a lifetime of dance music in his head, it is not unusual for James pull out records from the past two decades and incorporate them into his sets as seamlessly and tight as he is known for. The reaction of those who experience James’ sets firsthand from the dance floor is further proof to this dynamic performer that some things are, in fact, meant to be.
